Has the car been sitting outside in the rain without driving regularly?

Sounds like there’s a groove in the rotor. About 99% of the rotors life is forward motion. So makes sense if you only hear it when backing up.

Have you recently replaced any of the brake parts as of late and lubricate the braking system?

I've found sanding the paint off of the edges of the friction material helps in most situations. Verify rotors have a good finish, and burnish pads.

our garage had an issue like this before. Tech bent the caliper bracket slightly so the hardware was just scraping the rotor. we heated up the bracket and bent it back and from then on we had no issues

the most common thing i see at our garage is when techs dont replace hardware or lube up the slide pins.
